As I had previously indicated on «mblazquez.es», after several months of development, I have finally been able to showcase for a few minutes one of the most interesting research and development projects I have been working on. The web search engine is called «WauSearch×» and constitutes a testing and experimentation platform for future information search concepts.

WauSearch provides the opportunity to study user query mechanisms and their experience in order to refine and develop new applications for search engines. Indeed, WauSearch is a demonstration platform for novel concepts and utilities that can facilitate users’ interaction with the search environment.

WauSearch originates from a reflection on how users employ search engines, and more importantly, due to the needs that these engines fail to address. It is evident that current search engines provide adequate results and simple-to-use interfaces, yet their evolution has been relegated to a secondary priority due to emerging technological trends. WauSearch is a reaffirmation of the central role of information retrieval and of the role played by information professionals, particularly Documentalists, in this field.

Although today’s presentation on December 9, 2014, could not detail all the capabilities of the WauSearch engine, some benefits and features for users and research are highlighted.

Advantages for Users

  1. WauSearch retrieves approximately 25% more results under normal conditions.
  2. Simple and intuitive interface.
  3. Advanced yet easy-to-use refinement and filtering options.
  4. Does not store the user's IP address, so queries cannot be linked to individual users.
  5. Exports results of performed queries.

  1. Query log of searches to improve search, refinement, and assistance systems.
  2. Platform for integrating new experiments in retrieval, interface, and search assistance.
  3. Implementation of new applications for information management.
  4. Experience in developing search engines.

On December 15, 2014, its official launch will take place, along with a more comprehensive explanation of the search engine, inaugurating its operation and making it freely available to all users. Until then, a few more days must be waited before WauSearch can be definitively used. The countdown has already begun.
