On Thursday, March 21 at 12:00 p.m., the launch event for the Colibrí Library Management System took place. Present were the Dean of the Faculty of Documentation, José María de Francisco Olmos, and the Director of the Department of Library and Information Science, María Teresa Fernández Bajón, who offered words of support and encouragement for the initiative. Following this, the presentation of Colibrí began, featuring a brief overview of some of the distinctive features that set Colibrí’s operational model apart (View presentation).

The demonstration consisted of a comprehensive walkthrough of the application’s main modules, including configuration, administration, users, maintenance, migration, pre-cataloging, cataloging, serial publications, reports, and search and retrieval via the OPAC.
Several notable features revealed included the tool’s semantic capability to relate tags used in document classification during the cataloging process; the assisted search system for pre-cataloging that automatically retrieves information from WorldCat or Amazon through barcode scanning of each item’s UPC code; the triple classification model combining a thesaurus, Dewey Decimal Classification, and tags; and the template system for bibliographic description. Additionally, a live QR code reading test was conducted, demonstrating the system’s capacity to deliver qualified retrieval functionalities.
Let us hope this is the first step toward continuing to develop and refine the Hummingbird tool with everyone's support. I thank all who attended for your presence and interest in an event that demonstrated the technological capacity that can be achieved when adequate support and resources are provided.
