No. 6 – Specialized Information Sources: Practical and Theoretical Aspects
The manual,Specialized Information Sources: Practical and Theoretical Aspects, provides an academic and training tool for students in Documentation and for all information professionals interested in understanding the main resources and sources of scientific information and their documentary types. To this end, it addresses the conceptual definition and delimitation of Science, Technology, and Scientific Knowledge, to distinguish the scope of information sources. It then analyzes the principal information and scientific reference services provided by documentalists, as well as an overview of the main systems for characterizing and classifying scientific knowledge. This enables the inference of the method or process of transmission of scientific knowledge and its communication through various media, formats, and documentary types, while proposing examples and new specialized information sources. It also examines how these sources should be described, cataloged, and evaluated, proposing new models based on some of the most prominent and prestigious authors in Documentation in Spain.
