The research portal in Documentation mblazquez.es was created in 2010 by Prof. Dr. Manuel Blázquez-Ochando from the Faculty of Documentation Sciences at the Complutense University of Madrid, with the aim of serving as an alternative platform for dissemination and publication, enabling the academic, professional, and scientific communities to access studies and research developed in his areas of expertise.

Over its more than fifteen years of activity, the portal has evolved alongside the author’s research lines, establishing itself as a reference space in the field of Documentation Sciences in the Spanish language. Its academic blogs have accumulated nearly one million visits from researchers, educators, and students from over thirty countries.

Research Lines

The areas of work addressed on the portal encompass the following lines:

  1. Artificial intelligence applied to Documentation: prompt engineering, AI literacy, and the impact of generative AI on Information Sciences
  2. Information retrieval and design of specialized search engines
  3. Syndication and repurposing techniques applied to bibliographic catalog management
  4. Webmetry and scientometrics applied to the analysis of scientific production
  5. Web scraping and data mining for massive information extraction in web environments
  6. Automation of information units and integrated library management systems
  7. Specialized information sources in science and technology
  8. Metadata, ontologies, and the semantic web
  9. Open access, orphan works, and copyright in the digital environment

Teaching Activities

Professor Dr. Blázquez-Ochando teaches courses in the Department of Library and Information Science at UCM on topics related to information retrieval, information architecture, advanced web development, automation of information units, database design, and information systems and technologies. The portal emerged as a natural extension of this teaching activity, and its academic blogs remain a frequently consulted resource for Spanish-speaking students and researchers.

Research Group

Professor Blázquez is a member of the research group POLITECOM at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he develops collaborative projects in the fields of documentary technologies and Digital Humanities.
